The rules of omaha poker games are very similar to texas holdem rules. In omaha the main difference is you are dealt 4 down cards instead of 2. The dealer will put out a 5 card board consisting of a flop(3 cards), then a turn(1 card), and finally the river(1 card). You must use exactly 2 cards from your hand along with exactly 3 community or board cards to make a qualifying poker hand. Betting is done in the same fashion as texas holdem. There is a single round of betting preflop, on the flop, on the turn, and the river card brings the 4th and final round of betting. In order to win a pot a poker player must show all for of his/her cards. If a player shows 2 and mucks the other 2 by mistake their hand will be forfeited and the winner will be decided among the remaining poker hands. The main thing to remember in omaha is that you must use exactly 2 cards from your hand and exactly 3 community cards to make the best 5 card poker hand. If there are 4 flush cards on the board it makes no difference if you have one of the same suit or not. It will not be a flush unless you are holding 2 cards of that suit.

Four card straight hands such as J,Q,K,A double suited are also very strong starting hands. Hands like these offer several difftert straight, and flush possibilities! They can also be very deceptive hands on a flop like 9,10,Q with two of your suit cards for example.

Playing Positional Poker: For those of you unfamiliar with position, it simply means where you are seated at the poker table in relation to the blinds and the dealer button. The player to the immediate left of the big blind is considered to be under the gun or in first position. The dealer button is last to act. Raising with weaker poker holdings in late position in an unraised pot is solid omaha strategy, and consistant with all types of poker. This is because all the poker players have acted before you except for the two blinds. If nobody has raised it's not likely that they have a hand they can call your raise with. Position is extremely important in Omaha poker games because the pot sizes can be enormous. You don't want to get tangled up in early position with a weak hand! If you have the button you should call a bet, raise, or even limp into the pot with small or medium pairs. You could potentionally flop a set or even a full house. It's difficult for other players to put you on a strong starting hand when you are in late position. Other solid players know that you could enter the pot with any two cards on the button. This can actually work against them at times meaning you will get paidoff more often.
